ABSTRACT:

The study aimed to study the influence of child abuse on students, learning effectiveness in secondary school at Ilala District in Dar es Salaam Region. The question that guided the study focused on the forms, causes and effects of child abuse on learning and academics achievements in Secondary school students at Ilala Municipality in Dar es Salaam region. The study was guided by the theoretical frame work of Humanism theory by Abraham Maslow in 1943, which state that Human beings being free to act and control their own destinies, and Family system theory by Bowen 1950s, claims that family as an emotional unit and uses systems thinking to describe the complex interaction in the unit but also is Social Cognitive theory developed by Bandura 1961, 1963 was to study how children aggression seen by adult. The research was conducted at Ilala District in Dar es salaam region. The number of respondents were one hundred and twenty-eight (128) includes students, teachers, parents, and heads of schools. Qualitative and quantitative approaches was the main which help to analyze the data. Data collection was done through Interview, questionnaires, as well as observation. Findings revealed that most students who were affected by child abuse it is very difficult to learn in the class but also their academic performance was very poor because of losing concentration in the class. The study recommends to investigate the attitudes and participation of parents on the problem of child abuse also to emphasize strategies of eradicating the problem of child abuse among street children at Ilala Municipality in Dar es salaam region.
